Is the Blue Tick Eluding You? Reasons Your Attempts at Instagram Verification May not be Working

Picture

An Instagram verification badge is a blue checkmark that appears beside the profile photo of a verified user as well as comments made. Being verified means that Instagram has confirmed that the account is the authentic representation of the public figure or brand it represents.

Verification Requirements
Before you even consider requesting Instagram verification, you should meet a few requirements. The account should:
  • Not violate the platform’s terms of service (TOS) and community regulations. The Instagram terms of service and community guidelines oversee the type of content you are able to post and the behaviours you can display on the platform. Make sure you are not promoting a business Instagram doesn’t like such as shady services, pyramid schemes, and so on. These are listed in their terms of service.

  • Represent a person or business that exists in the real world. Instagram will not verify a profile that represents a falsified or fictional identity, or a non-existing entity. Requesting verification on accounts that represent a movie might as well be fake accounts as far as Instagram is concerned. Even if you’re following all the rules, Instagram still isn’t going to verify you.

  • Be a unique representation of the body it represents which means only one Instagram profile can be verified per business (except for multilanguage profiles). Ensure you’re not a fan account. Ensure you are the actual entity asking for verification, not a third-party entity requesting verification.

  • Be active and have real engagement with users. If the profile’s engagement is low, Instagram will not verify the account that isn’t active on their platform. You can’t rely on verification to be the motivation that makes you start using Instagram. Actively use Instagram and they will be more likely to verify you.

  • Be established as a public account. Private Instagram profiles will not be verified. If you want to market and build your brand being a private account will not help on IG. With a private account you lose out on users easily seeing your content and other potential benefits including verification.

  • Your account cannot promote social media services. Specifically, services they don’t approve of.
  • Represent someone noteworthy. Probably the hardest criteria quantify. Because Instagram does not have any specific guidelines as to what is significant enough for them to consider.

  • .Make sure it is clear you are who you say you are. If you are constantly changing your information, verification may be hard to attain major changes to your account name or identifying information is a sign that you may have given the account to someone else. You cannot get an IG verification checkmark then change your information to sell a verified account.
  • Make sure you’re building your brand on third party sites gradually. Grow your position online organically as much as possible to boost your chances of success. Linking your other social media accounts from your Instagram profile is a good start as well as posting the link to your Instagram account from your website, and blogs ever so often.

It is important to note that if you attempt to bypass or falsify information in the verification process. Do not use fake services or buy followers or likes or your verification attempt will be denied.
It doesn’t help if you try to verify a startup. Instagram wants to verify the big entities, not the little brands looking for a little marketing boost.

Once you submit a verification request, Instagram will review your account and determine whether or not you should be verified. Even if your account is approved or denied, a notification will be sent in the app with the results. If you are denied, you can always send another request after 30 day period has passed
