Verified Vs Unverified: How Your Social Media Status Impacts Your Business

Picture
Gone are the days when having a social media platform was an afterthought or updating your social media was only a lunchtime task. Social media can impact your business’ marketing and public relations activities that now there are dedicated departments to handling this need.
Social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook are behind the conception and
subsequent popularity of social media influencers. Traditional influencers are public figures like Actors and sports athletes while social media influencers are not users who became well-known experts in their niche by posting content, growing their follower count.

Authenticity Verified
These social media platforms created verification badges for accounts. Verification badges are used to prove an accounts authenticity rather than a character account. Verification is usually given to accounts held by people who are considered to be public figures and brands that may be imitated or impersonated, which means not everyone will be verified.
Depending on the social media platform a blue checkmark is placed next to the user’s profile name. Verification promotes trust to consumers and being social media verified can have benefits including an increase in purchase.
Importantly, attaining verification on social media proves the validity of an account. Even if you already have a high following, being validated attracts new followers because people tend to follow who others are following. This is defined as social proof.
While getting followers might be great, earning followers is important to grow your brand online.  Being verified allows you early access to new features before they become available to the public.

A More Secure Digital Existence
In addition, being verified is that it prevents imitation. Being impersonated on social media can have negative effects on your brand. when users interact with your account, they can be sure you are you’re your true self since not only does the verification badge appear next to your username on your profile but also when you make comments.

When Verification May Not Help
But does the absence of social verification have an extensive effect on how the brand is regarded?  Verified and unverified brands are both highly active and well-followed accounts. While verified accounts may receive additional followers captivated by the verification badge, if the reason for following the account is not because of content quality or relevance, but rather the verification checkmark, this follower might not add anything special to your brand.
If a follower is not engaged with the content from the get-go, it defeats the purpose of having them as a follower at all because brands need followers to influence them. People will follow accounts verified or not if the content from that account is good. If your posts are trustworthy, your brand will demand authority naturally.
Build a good social media account and you will receive a good following, verified or not. If a user comes across your account but loses the will to follow you but declines because the account is not verified, it would be no loss to you. Also, if someone follows a fake account seemingly unknowingly, there are usually signs to know information posted is misleading. However, for the less perceptive social media user, a verified account offers an assurance that the information is genuine. We should be cognizant of the fact that verified social media accounts help to protect a brand. When slanderous content that has not been verified will have no major impact if the authentic account exists elsewhere.
It is more important to those who have it to be social media verified but for some who are unverified, it’s not that much of a problem. In a nutshell, social media verification gives validation that your content is influencing people.
